Marijuana rules that Massachusetts voters regrettably thought were too tight are now ridiculously loose.

Cited for possession of a small amount of the drug, one can provide the name “Joe Blow” or “Mary Jane,” and the officer has to accept it.

Or, one can ignore the $100 fine, and the municipality pretty much has to accept that, too.

As reported in the Telegram & Gazette Monday, Leicester is stuck with 126 unpaid citations that were levied on people caught with less than an ounce of marijuana. That’s $12,600 in “missing” marijuana funds for townspeople to rightly fume about. Plus, the costs of printing, issuing and processing the citations add to the waste and frustration.
